Written during World War II by Wiktor Szołtysek, a resident of Mikołów, Poland, this original diary presents the extraordinary journey of a soldier escaping the Wehrmacht and joining the Polish II Corps in Italy. Edited by his son, Jan Szoltysek, the book includes a preface written by Professor Emeritus Alfred Sulik and an epilogue written by Henryk Szoltysek, PhD. Over 400 pages long including 150 footnotes, 3 maps, added chapters providing historical context of the time, as well as 250 photographs - most of them taken by Wiktor during his wartime journey.
